January 14, 1999- Moment I Faced Death, By Geri
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has told of the terrifying moment when
she thought she was going to die.
The pop star almost drowned while whitewater rafting on a Comic Relief
trip in Uganda.
"I fell into the rapids and was sucked under for 20 seconds," said Geri.
"Then the whole boat turned over and struck me on the head. It was
terrifying.
"It was like something out of The Poseidon Adventure - I was like Shelley
Winters.
"I was screaming, 'Help me, help me'. Luckily someone grabbed hold of me,
pulled me out of the rapids and saved me."

January 14, 1999- #1 Team to Spice Up Geri's Life
Geri Halliwell has turned to the writers of many of the Spice Girls'
biggest hits to launch her solo career.
The former Ginger Spice has been working on demos with songwriters Richard
Stannard and Matt Rowe, The Sun reported.
The duo co-wrote a string of her former band's biggest hits, including
Wannabe, Mama, 2 Become 1, Viva Forever and Spice Up Your Life.
What makes the move surprising is that Stannard and Rowe are managed by
Simon Fuller, who was ousted as the Spice Girls' manager in November 1997.
At the time Geri was credited as being behind his sacking.
She has now signed to Chrysalis Records in a deal rumoured to be worth £2
million. Her first solo single is expected to be released later this year.
An insider told The Sun: 'Geri has gone back to Richard and Matt because
they are one of the best writing teams around. They wrote a load of hits
for the Spice Girls and she hopes they can do the same for her.
"There's a lot of pressure on her to come up with a hit single - and she
wants to get it absolutely right."

January 12, 1999- Spice Girls? Cut!
A Disney cartoon movie about the Spice Girls is hanging in the balance -
because the corporation fears the band are about to split.
Geri's departure, Victoria and Melanie G's pregnancies and forthcoming
solo albums by Melanies B and C have given Disney the jitters. Not to
mention that their Christmas single is called Goodbye.
The script is written, but the movie giant has now put the project - with
spin-off TV series - on ice until it gets a cast-iron pledge from the
girls that they will continue.
An insider told the News of the World: "Disney are still enthusiastic,
but before they commit to the project they need to know that the girls
will still be together.
"They want to have the entire film ready for release by next Christmas,
which will hopefully tie in with the girls' third album.
"That is the most profitable time for a movie to be released - but it is
also a long time away. If they are going to sink huge funds into it, they
want to know they are not backing a lost cause. They are also trying to
get the girls to write one or two tracks for the film and release the
theme tune as a single.
"There's a lot of wheeling and dealing and lawyers' letters flying around
behind the scenes, but the girls are used to that.
"However, Disney bosses know taking it further will be a waste of ime if
the Spice Girls are getting ready to take their millions their own ways."
The Spice babies are due next month. Meanwhile Baby Spice herself is busy
filming her lead part in a BBC musical version of Sleeping Beauty, to be
screened next Christmas.

January 9, 1999- Urban' Feel On New Album
Source: http://www.mtv.com/news/headlines/990108/story2.html
Producer Rodney Jerkins could wind up with a Record of the Year Grammy
compliments of his work with Brandy and Monica on the hit "The Boy Is
Mine," a song that has already earned him at least one award.
Jerkins has been picked by the Spice Girls to work on the foursome's next
pop offering.
"I went out to dinner with a couple of the Spice Girls about a month and a
half ago and they told me that they want me to, you know, do some work on
their album, so I'm planning on going to London at the end of January,
early February to work on the album, so it should be cool. I'm ready for
it," Jerkins told MTV News recently of his union with the girls.
The producer went on to say that he hopes to bring an "urban, danceable"
feel to the Spice Girls project, adding, "It will still have a pop appeal,
but the beats will be a little harder." There is word that production whiz
Timbaland may also contribute to the project.
The album, currently untitled, is not set for release until later this
year.

January 9, 1999- Ginger Snapped Over Cancer Campaign
Geri Halliwell left the Spice Girls so she could concentrate on her breast
cancer campaigns, she has told the BBC.
In her first British TV interview since the split, she told chat show host
Michael Parkinson the Spice Girls' tight schedule would have prevented her
from doing an interview on the issue, so she walked out on the spot.
Ms. Halliwell had a lump removed from her chest at the age of 18 and has
become a prominent campaigner since she left the group in May.
"The day I left the Spice Girls I wasn't planning to leave, it made me
check out my own principles," she told Parkinson.
"I was meant to be doing the National Lottery show and the schedule
wouldn't permit me to do a breast cancer interview and I thought, 'Hold on
a minute, what are your principles?'
"So I had to question myself. That is the reason I left on that day -
there was never a good day to leave."
She added she was always planning to leave the group anyway - and had told
Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Victoria Adams and Emma Bunton four
months earlier she was planning to quit in September 1998.
Halliwell added the split was still "quite tender in my heart" and her
relationship with the others was "like a marriage".
She said: I fell in love completely, passionately, I needed it."
But she added: "Like one in three marriages, under the pressure of work
schedules the marriage broke up, it imploded."
Halliwell added the decision to go was "nothing to do with any of the
girls really".
She also spoke of her stint as a topless model before she was successful -
which came back to haunt her at the height of her fame.
"To be honest it was boring. I found it very, very dull in the end.
Standing there with the window open to keep your nipples firm was not
good," she said.
Since leaving the Spice Girls, Geri has signed a solo deal with EMI, and
has already written lyrics for her songs.
She said: "It's totally schizophrenic with mood swings so that every woman
in Britain will identify with it."

January 9, 1999- New Spicy Album Before Solo Albums
Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/newsroom/spicey.html
Spice Girls fans can expect a new album from the girls within the next six
months and it will come ahead of any planned solo offerings from the fab
four. Melanie B - or Melanie G as we now call her - will be the first to
release a full album, and it would seem Melanie C won't be that far behind
her, but neither will come ahead of the Spiceys’ project.
Their boss, Virgin MD Paul Conroy, told The Net it'll be a busy year for
the girls: "The Spice Girls have got a work ethic that everyone knows. The
babies are on the horizon but, as far as Emma and Melanie C are concerned,
they are very, very busy at the moment with different projects". And he
says Melanie G has also been in the studio recently: "She’s working away
and obviously Victoria and Melanie are going to give time to the children,
but they’ve been so busy over the last four years they desa bit of a
break. Who knows? There may be a Christmas single next year - certainly
they’re working on music".
Scary's solo album will be produced by Timbaland, who's worked with Nas
and Missy Elliott, and has a total of 10 million album sales under his
belt already. The single is expected to feature Mary J Blige - although
the details will be confirmed after Melanie has her baby.

January 9, 1999- Watch Out For Bump
Soccer ace David Beckham carefully helps pregnant fiance Posh Spice into
his new 150,000 Ferrari -remembering she's got a baby on board.
Manchester United idol Beckham, 23, took Victoria Adams, 24 - due to have
his child next month - for a spin in the 199mph supercar after she bought
it for him for Christmas.
The couple roared off to London's Bond Street, with Beckham watching out
both for the motor and Victoria's bump.
An onlooker said: "Beckham could hardly keep the grin off his face as he
got behind the wheel - and I don't blame him.
"The car stood out a mile even in one of the country's most fashionable
streets."
The Sun told yesterday how England ace Beckham was over the moon when Posh
had the silver Ferrari 550 Maranello delivered for him, four weeks after
he fell in love with the motor on a test drive.
His team pal Ryan Giggs bought a red one in November. Beckham already has
a 60,000 Range Rover, a 55,000 Jaguar and a 45,000 BMW.
His new machine can go from 0 to 60mph in 4.3 seconds and can complete a
mile from standstill in around 30 seconds.
Posh and Beckham headed to London in the hope of picking up a few designer
bargains in the sales - but returned to the car empty-handed

January 6, 1999- Sporty's Secret Sis
Sporty Spice Melanie C has struck up an astonishing Girl Power pact with
the teenage sister she never knew existed.
Millionaire Melanie Chisholm wasn't sure how she would get on with
17-year-old student Emma Williams after the two were introduced out of the
blue just 18 months ago.
But she need not have worried . . . for the giggly girls have built up the
type of tender sisterly love that would bond any family together.
They've become so inseperable that music biz colleagues working with
24-year-old Melanie affectionately refer to pretty Emma as the "Fifth
Spice Girl." In the remarkably short time they've known each other, Emma
has gone to parties with high-kicking Sporty, travelled abroad with the
Fab Four girls on their Spice Bus - and even been given a cherished
double-platinum disc for blockbuster sales of the Spiceworld album.
It's an amazing transformation in the life of Emma, who shares the same
father as Melanie and clearly boasts the same strong family resemblance.
And in 1999 the sisters are set to get even closer, with Melanie on the
verge of splashing out £560,000 on a mock Georgian mansion in the Domesday
Book town of Knutsford, Cheshire.
She'll be just an hour's drive from where Emma is studying tourism at
college in Llandudno, just over the North Wales border 60 miles away.
Emma had never seen her father Alan Chisholm since birth, but always knew
that somewhere she had a half-sister called Melanie from her dad's next
marriage.
Then one day a friend pointed out a picture of Alan - who split with
Melanie's mother Joan O'Neill years ago -standing next to Sporty Spice.
"It all fitted in," said Emma, who shortly afterwards met her long-lost
dad. He in turn set up a meeting with secret sis Mel C, who for once was
lost for words.
Emma said: "He just brought her round one day. I remember that it did not
really feel like meeting a Spice Girl. It felt like I was meeting my
sister.
"We just hugged. We laughed at the same things. There were things that we
both did - and we even both suffer from hay fever!
"Melanie told me that she was shooting a video when she was told about me.
She had not known that I existed at all. She is a real laugh and very down
to earth and kind."
Emma was invited to meet the rest of the Spice Girls - Scary Melanie G,
Posh Victoria Adams, Baby Emma Bunton and Ginger Geri Halliwell (then
still in the band) - at a poll winners' party thrown by Smash Hits
magazine.
"They were just mad. They were getting ready to go to the bash and it was
just like getting ready for a girls' night out," she recalled.
"They were all borrowing one another's make-up. The girls are very
friendly, easy to get on with and have a great sense of humour. They were
all pleased for Melanie."
Emma then went to see the girls in action in Paris, taking her gobsmacked
boyfriend along for the ride on board the band's famous Spice Bus.
"He was really thrilled. He was over the moon as he sat next to David
Beckham!" said Emma, who believes that the remaining four Spices have no
intention of ever breaking up.
Emma, who lives with her grandma in Llandudno, sayshe can understand
how contact with either her dad or Melanie C took so long.
When Alan left her mother in Wales, he ended up in Widnes, Cheshire, where
he wooed and wed Joan O'Neill.
One of their children was an energetic girl they called Melanie, who
dreamed of being a dancer.
Emma admits, however, that things got tough when word first leaked out
locally about her famous sisterly connection.
She said: "At the time it was hard. I did lose some friends, mostly I
think through jealousy, but my best mates stuck with me."
Despite her newly-found sister, Melanie C hasn't forgotten that she's also
got a brother.
Would-be racing driver Paul O'Neill is hoping to make a career as a
Formula One star, thanks to some help from Sporty's pop fortune.
The singer has already splashed out £29,950 on a Trident Ventura 2.5i
supercar for 18-year-old Paul.
She gave him the flash motor despite the fact that motorcycle courier Paul
wrote off Melanie C's £35,000 Mercedes SLK sports car in January last year.
Paul escaped with minor injuries, but still hopes to make it as a racing
driver and wants a job with the MG sports team.
He said: "I watch her on stage and think 'Look at how hard she works and
how good she is' - and I try to be like that myself."
Paul got his full racing licence in March and has been driving scaled-
down Formula One cars at the Donington Park Circuit in Leicestershire
since 1997.

January 5, 1999- Still Spicy For Top 25
The Spice Girls have done it again. They are the only artists to have two
albums in the top 25 albums of 1998 (according to SoundScan).
Said-to-be male versions of the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys were expected
to steel the crown from girl power for #1 selling album, as Spice Girls
debut album "Spice" was the #1 album of 1997, but only received the
ranking of #4 for album sales.
Here is what Mtv.com had to say about both albums:
#10 Spiceworld - Spice Girls [Virgin]: The second volume in the group's
girl power manifesto came into in its own during the Girl's first U.S.
tour, and the album is sure to become a much-debated memento of the
formative, Ginger Spice days of the Spice Girls.
#25 Spice - Spice Girls [Virgin]: Just last year the Brit quintet was the
international pop rage, but even as internal strife resulted in Ginger
Spice's departure, the Girls' debut continued to move units, proving that
whatever the problems were, all Spice fans wanted was a little
"zig-a-zig-ah!"

January 5, 1999- Car? Just What I, Er, Wanted, Posh
Source: http://www.people.co.uk/stories/A0301908.html
Posh Spice's Christmas gift to lover David Beckham might be on its way
back to the car showroom.
David had already booked himself a new Ferrari 355 only weeks before
mum-to-be Victoria Adams spent £220,000 on a silver Maranello as a
surprise prezzie for the soccer star, the Sunday People can reveal.
A pal of the England ace said: "Nobody really wants to say anything
because we don't know if Victoria knew about David's purchase.
"It's a bit of a sore point really. It's not like buying someone slippers
and realising they've already got a pair. We're talking a quarter of a
million pounds worth of sports car here.
"It was really difficufor her not knowing what to buy. I mean, what do
you buy the man who's got everything? But it now looks like it's something
he's already got."
The couple are expecting their first baby next month. For Beckham, 23, who
owns a fleet of luxury motors, it will probably arrive before his latest
dream machine - still under construction at Ferrari's Italian plant

January 3, 1999- Money, Cars, and Love
In 1998, the Spice Girls ruled and pint-size shoppers flexed their
spending muscle to the tune of $1.4 billion annually. That's a lot of
temporary tattoos, Lancome peel-off nail polish, mendhi kits and Smell
This odd-ball fragrances mocking the scent of everything from gasoline or
cake batter to clean laundry.
Posh Spice's Christmas gift to lover DAVID BECKHAM might be on its way
back to the car showroom. Becks had already booked himself a new Ferrari
355 only weeks before mum-to-be VICTORIA ADAMS spent £220,000 on a silver
Maranello as a surprise prezzie for the soccer star. Last night a pal of
the England ace said: "Nobody really wants to say anything because we
don't know if Victoria knew about David's purchase. "It's a bit of a sore
point really. It's not like buying someone slippers and realising they've
already got a pair. We're talking a quarter of a million pounds worth of
sports car here. "It was really difficult for her not knowing what to buy.

first baby next month. For Beckham, 23, who owns a fleet of luxury motors,
it will probably arrive before his latest dream machine - still under
construction at Ferrari's Italian plant. For an article and pictures of
Victoria click here!
Baby Spice Emma Bunton has finally gone public with her new love - sharing
passionate kisses on a luxury New Year break. Insiders reveal she is
happier than ever before with 19-year-old singer Jade Jones from the group
Damage. They say what she really, really wants is to tie the knot just
like fellow Spice Girl Melanie G. And the romantic pictures on the
paradise island of Mauritius - in which she is seen smooching, laughing
and generally having a great time - show she may have found Mr. Right at
last. Emma began dating Jade last year but the couple have always refused
to speak publicly about their love and have taken care to leave any
functions separately. But last week, Emma threw caution - and her clothes
- to the wind as she lovingly kissed her man on a beach. Emma splashed out
more than £10,000 for the ten-day holiday at the five-star Royal Palm
hotel. After one sunbathing session, before the pair returned to enjoy a
sumptuous banquet in the hotel's £150-a-head restaurant, Emma threw her
arms around Jade and pulled him towards her. One onlooker said: "Their
kiss lasted for over 10 seconds. "The pair looked just like a couple of
honeymooners - they are obviously in love and besotted with each other."

Madonna's Ray of Light album has pulled ahead of Spiceworld by almost 20%.

December 23, 1998- Posh and Her Pals Write Just For You
Source: News of the World
By VICTORIA
IT'S been a great year and 1999 looks like being even better now that I am
settled in Manchester and have the baby to look forward to.
And, of course, David and I are getting married.
I was feeling very homesick towards the end of our world tour, so it feels
good to be back. This Christmas I am just going to spend time with David
and my family.
I really missed them while I was away-even though they flew out to see me
quite a lot. I am so lucky to have such supportive parents.
I've already started building my nest. I have found the cot and need some
little wardrobes built because I have been buying quite a few baby
clothes. There's a surprise! David's bought a little baby football shirt
which says "Beckham" on the back too. Ahhhh.
It was good to see our dogs again after so long awa, although they are a
bit too boisterous for me to play with at the moment.
We sent them to school to be trained because they got into naughty habits.
The thing is, when they come back from school, David forgets to follow up
their training.
They eat better than David or I do and have dinner from Marks & Spencer
evnight.
They wolf down about ten chickens every evening because they are
rottweilers and so big. It's like feeding horses!
Highlights? ... nfor me thanks!
Seriously, it was fantastic when Viva Forever became our seventh UK No.1
and our biggest-selling single in Europe.
We recorded Goodbye, our Christmas single, in Nashville at a studio Elvis
once worked in.
The chorus actually goes "Goodbye my friend/it's not the end".
So for anyone who thinks we are breaking up-we are NOT.
It's a very sentimental song about everything that happened to us this
year, including when Geri left and how we coped with it.
We stayed in a grotty hotel in Nashville. In my room the bottle opener
hung from a big, rusty old chain on the wall.
I grabbed it to open a water bottle and guess what? The whole wall fell
down!
Love,
Victoria

December 23, 1998- Franks Ribs Melanie C With 'Gay' Jokes
Source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/stories/H2312804.htm
Frank Skinner cracked a string of gags at Spice Girl Melanie C's expense
during a TV interview.
Dubbing her "Lesbian Spice", the comic jokingly referred to rumors hat the
Spice Girl prefers women.
The exchange on BBC1's Frank Skinner's Christmas Show, to be shown
tomorrow, included Frank asking why Melanie was nicknamed Holland at
school.
"Because I have such a large chest and Holland is flat," said Melanie, 24.
But Frank was quick to retort: "Holland is covered in dykes too."
To her credit, Melanie managed to keep a smile on her face throughout.

Geri Halliwell, formerly known as Ginger Spice, ranks #10 on Barbara
Walter's 1998 Most Intriguing People special.
She dodged answering why she left the Spice Girls AGAIN. Barbara Walters
used her interviewing skills to somehow squeez the truth out of her, but
all she got from Ms. Halliwell was "it came down to morals and integrity."
Number one "Intriguer," so to speak, is no other than United States of
America President Bill Clinton, who flooded the media throughout the year
with the sex scandal of the century.

This poll is NOT the same as the People magazine one, with many intriguing
Australians in it as well. Geri was named the most intriguing, while
Aussies such as Tony Martin (E-Street) and Natalie Imbruglia came in, but
the biggest suprise was from former white house Intern, Monica Lewinsky.

Also, The Herald Sun newspaper featured a 3 page spread on Geri, including
an interview with the ex-pop star. The article was titled "I was Lost In
Spice" and featured Geri mentioning that in the Spice Girls, she was very
"deppressed" a lot of the time, and, that when she left the band, she was
very lonely. A scawill be added to the sender's of this news story

On a final note, it is said (could be false) that a close friend of Adem

with the Goodbye Australian cover winner, Owen Lambourn, and according to
Sharon, he hates the Spice Girls. He did it for a joke and the prizes he

DJ Neil Fox said: "The Spice Girls did quite a lot of stuff visiting the

POSH FURY AT BECKHAM TRYST WITH PAGE 3 GIRL
October 03 1998
POSH Spice Victoria Adams hit the roof last night after discovering
fianc David Beckham has had a secret tryst with a Page Three
girl.
Manchester United hero Beckham, 23, ended up passionately kissing
topless model Emma Ryan while Posh was away on a world tour with
her Spice pals.
Beckham and 22-year-old Emma arranged the encounter, on the sofa
at a pal's house, after exchanging furtive phone calls - but
stopped short of sex.
Last night Victoria, 24, who is expecting Beckham's baby next
year, insisted she and the star would stay together.
In a gritted-teeth reference to United's fixture today, she told
The Sun: "There has been no red card. This is not a sending-off
offence. I've sent him to Southampton instead."
A Spice Girls insider said: "If David thought he was in trouble
when he came back from the World Cup, it is nothing compared
to what he is facing now."
Emma, who first met Beckham in a Manchester restaurant on a night
out with her twin sister Eve, also told how he:
WHISPERED sweet nothings as he spoto her over the phone.
TOOK extravagant measures to prevent them being spotted in public.
WENT out at midnight specially to buy newspapers to see one of
her sexy photo-shoots.
GAVE her top seats to watch him play for United, sitting in the
same block as his parents.
But she said Beckham left her heartbroken when he abruptly broke
off their relationship as soon as Posh returned from America.
Brunette Emma, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, said: "He made
me feel like a million dollars for a month but when Victoria
came home I never heard from him again.
"He treated me like a princess and then discarded me as though
I had never meant anything to him.
"I can't believe the David that I knew could do this to me. He
has made me feel worthless."
A Spice Girls source said Victoria was furious after Beckham
confessed his meetings with Emma.
But the insider stressed: "David did NOT have an affair with
this woman. It was a stupid, silly mistake. Nothing more.
"This will definitely not end things between him and Victoria.
She is a strong woman. But David's team mates may find that he
will be speaking in a high-pitched voice in the very near future."
Beckham met Victoria 18 months ago when she turned up to watch
a game at Old Trafford and was introduced to him.
It was love at first sight for the two young millionaires and
they started dating immediately.
They travelled hundreds of miles each week to see each other
and ran up huge phone bills.
Last Christmas he bought her a 25,000 Tiffany cross and she gave
him a diamond-encrusted ring.
Then in January they announced their engagement at a luxury hotel
in Cheshire.
Six weeks ago The Sun told how they were thrilled when Posh discovered
she was pregnant.
The sweethearts plan to marry next August and have splashed out
400,000 on a fantastic penthouse in the village of Alderley Edge,
Cheshire.
They enjoy all the trappings of their amazing combined salaries
with Beckham driving a Jaguar XK8, a Range Rover and a Porsche
Carrera.
But in the summer Beckham returned from the World Cup to face
the wrath and scorn of fans who blamed England's exit on his
sending-off against Arg.
